The BJP is finalising its strategy for the next elections.

Targeting the UPA government, the Ram Setu will top the BJP"s agenda at its Bhopal national executive. In the last summit, the Ram Setu issue was just a minor mention.

But its general Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will not be present at the session.

‘"Doctors have advised him not to come, which is why he is not here,'" said Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Spokesperson, BJP.

Guessing game

Vajpayee"s absence means the leadership issue may not be resolved.

Party leaders believe Advani is positioning himself to take charge and has used Karunanidhi"s recent outbursts to position himself as a Ram saviour.

But without Vajpayee"s endorsement, no final decision can be taken. So, the guessing game will continue even after the summit.

‘"We will discuss this issue at election time,'" said Mukhatar Abbas Naqvi, BJP Spokesman.

Also giving the executive a miss will be Gujarat BJP rebels like Keshubhai Patel and Suresh Mehta.

It"s a worry, considering Gujarat is the first electoral test for the BJP. Even so, the BJP, which is keen to shore up its image, has made full use of the RSS decision to allow it to take part in the Ram Setu agitation.

‘"We will work together on the Ram Setu issue,'" said Rajnath Singh, President, BJP.

The BJP is certain that mid-term election is inevitable. So at its national executive it wants to chalk out its electoral agenda but the tricky issue of leadership will remain unresolved.
